Patrice + Joe

White chairs are lined up under the trees waiting. The sun is high in the sky. Workers bustle about setting everything up. In the water tower the guys are getting ready. The best man has everyones attention as the guys laugh at his stories. The ladies are upstairs in the main house at the Inn at Park Winters. In the sweetest summery yellow dresses the bridesmaids lace up Patrice. Threading long white satin ribbons through each loop of her dress. Her mother helps put on her necklace. Two beautiful orchids are placed in her hair. The flower girls bounce around with excitement. Adorable twin girls who love Joe… almost as much as Patrice. They meet for the first time on a quiet path. They laugh in each others arms. Today is the day they marry! Soon she is walking down the aisle. Joe waits for her there. Guest cheer and toss rice as they walk. Joined in marriage. A tribute to Patrice’s parents who are rice farmers. Guest gather in front of the barn and sip on the signature drink- boba. The bride and groom join them for a candlelit dinner under the string of lights in the barn. In the twilight Patrice and Joe dance their first dance surrounded by the ones they love. A beautiful celebration of their love!

Congratulation Patrice and Joe! It was a pleasure and honor to document your beauitful wedding!!

morgen + doug

A dress just the right shade of blush. Layers upon layers of tulle cascade to the floor. A crushed ribbon tied around the waste of a stunning corset. The only thing more beautiful than the dress is the smile that beams from Morgen. All day long. As her bridesmaids bustle about her. Helping put her shoes on. Adjust her jewelry. Hold her beautiful bouquet with bits of thistle in it. She smiles. Pure joy. Her love awaits her in a sun speckled orchard. She touches Doug on the shoulder and he turns to see her. They are all smiles and laughter. Today on this beautiful summer solstice they will be married at the dreamy Bear Flag Farm. Shaded under a stunning white tent their friends and family gather. Morgen on the arm of her father walks through three flowered arches. Her brother will marry the couple. With much love and a few surprises. Just before they walk down the aisle they ask their guests for their support. They receive a enthustic yes. They all cheer for the newlyweds. With drinks in hand the celebration continues. The ladies make a wreath of flowers for their hair. Guests gather as Morgen and Doug saw the log. A symbol of their ability to work together to overcome obstacles. A German tradition. Guests cheer again. With one final kick Doug breaks the log apart. Under strings of lights tables are set. In the center a table with a canopy. Cream curtains drape to the floor and floral chandeliers hang above. Lush greenery and flowers line the center of the table. The perfect setting for a wedding day dinner. Grilled apricot and plum salad, beef tenderloin, wild salmon with baby potatoes, red pepper ravioli, and grilled summer vegetables. Bees buzz as the sunsets over a lavender field. Doug holds his love in his arms. She smiles. That blissfully happy smile. They rejoin the party. Doug takes Morgen’s hand in his and leads her to the dance floor. They dance under the trees and lights. Husband and wife. All their friends and family join them and dance the night away. A mid-summer night’s dream.

Rachel + Sean

When we pulled up to Plumas Pines Golf Course I was in awe. A golf course amongst pine trees and rustic mountain terrain. A white tent sits on top of the hill. It is surrounded by redwoods so high they touch the sky. We venture up to check it out. A cool breeze blows through and I thank Mother Earth for giving us this beautiful 88 degree day. Chairs are lined up facing the sweeping views of the green valley and mountains. This is where Rachel and Sean will marry! Just beautiful. The bride and her entourage arrive and hurry downstairs to finish getting ready. The groom and his two brothers just one door away. In a few minutes they will meet under those tall trees. Just the two of them. Rachel holds back tears as Sean sees his bride for the first time. They hold each other. Laugh. Kiss. This is the day they will marry! The guitarist plays a flamenco tune with such energy and spirit the guests all clap for his skill. Soon the bride will walk down the aisle, now shaded by those beautiful trees. Sean will take her hands in his and they will exchange heartfelt vows. Place rings on each other’s fingers. And kiss. The guest cheer as they walk down the aisle. Husband and wife. The newlywed couple mingles with friends and family. Rachel’s sister welcomes the groom into the family with a mini dance party. Sean’s brother speaks of the love and respect that Sean has for his mother and knows his brother will always honor and love his wife as he does their mother. With emotions flowing Rachel’s father speaks of the feeling he felt the first time he saw his sweet daughter the day she was born. He felt that same love seeing her on her wedding day. There wasn’t a dry eye to be found at his heart filled words. Guests toasted to Sean and Rachel’s love with a drink of their homemade limoncello. Plate after plate is passed along the tables as guests dine like Italians. Caesar salad, butternut squash risotto, pasta bolognese, pasta puttanesca, brasato di carne con polenta. So delicious! A desert table is lined with sweets and a sign saying, People who love to eat are the best people. With appetites sastified guests move to the dance floor. The song Happy comes on. Clap along if you know what happiness is for you! No one hesitates to clap.

Congratulations Rachel and Sean! It was a joy to document your beautiful wedding day. Wishing you many years of love and happiness!!

xo Kristy

Thank you!!

a beautiful begining

In the spring the sloping mountain side is covered with long green grass. Thin mossed-covered oak trees lean with the wind. The creek babbles away below. Little green caterpillars seem to float out of nowhere. Most nights a family of deer wander through. Like faeries or elves they show up at dusk. Looking strong and magical. You get the sense that this is their home and the houses dotting the mountain side are the guests. It is beautiful. This was my love’s childhood backyard. The complete opposite of the concrete suburb where I grew up. Perhaps, you can understand why I was enchanted by it. I always had a secret hope that we would be married there, under those trees. When Ted’s father gave us permission to have our wedding on his property I was beyond thrilled! And so the planning began… A vision started forming of a sweet little backyard wedding with hand-made touches. Lanterns hanging form the trees. Pink and blue fabric cut in triangles sewn together and strung from tree to tree. The tables lined with a strip of pink fabric. A wood round in the center. Garden-vegetable-planted tin cans sit on top, tied up neatly with a bow. A sack race and pinata for the kids. A breezy green spring wedding. And so it was. With much effort and maybe a few tears it all came together. The night before our wedding I planted the last of the tin cans. Tying a brown string with a bow and a note telling the guest to please take this little plant home so it can grow in their garden. I suppose I should have had that task and many others done way sooner. As I went to bed in the wee hours of the morning I felt a calm come over. Like the eye of a storm. The day after the chaos would resume as we dealt with the aftermath of our little party. But on our wedding day it became crystal clear what was important. Our love. The vows we made to each other that day. Under those moss covered oak trees. The details of the wedding day were no longer important. I let it go. As best I could. All my perfectionism and the vision of what the day would be and just let it be what it was. While there were a few unfinished tasks and moments of stress. It was a day I will always cherish. It was a day filled with love. We held back tears as we read our vows to each other. We laughed as we said our I do’s inside. We didn’t even realize we had missed those few technical lines as we had poured our hearts out to each other. No one else seemed to noticed either. We played and laughed with the kids as a pinata full of goodness burst open to their cries of excitement. We visited. We eat. We laughed some more. We danced in each others arms as Ted’s brother played for us. We let our love fill us up. Little by little our friends and family said their goodbys. Most stayed to help gather up the remnants of our sweet day. Everything tucked away. Those of us remaining went to Old Placerville to continue the celebration. We found ourselves a little pub with some live music and danced the night away. It couldn’t have been more imperfectly perfect. When I think of all the time we spent preparing for the wedding day. The thought and care that went into all the details. I don’t regret one project or decoration. The time we spent leveling the ground, planting grass, and laying a stone pathway to the spot we would say our vows. Was a testament to our relationship. While I am so happy we were able to focus on the bigger picture in the moment of the day. Our love. The love and care we put into all those details is the same love and care we put into our relationship. So thank you my husband for dreaming with me, for working along side me, for taking on any challenge with me, and for knowing when to stop and laugh. For the rest of my days I will walk along side you. Hand in hand.

Happy anniversary! Has it been three years already!!
